A recent feature on Rwanda Television (RTV) highlighted the work of B2R Farms and its efforts to support farmers in Ngoma District through Foundation for Farming’s conservation agriculture (FFF/CA). Farmers who have adopted these practices are already seeing meaningful results. Members of the Urutare Site cooperative report significantly higher yields and lower production costs.
One farmer shared that her maize harvest increased from five bags to eight after adopting FFF/CA, while labor costs for land preparation dropped dramatically—from around 30,000 RWF to less than 7,000 RWF. The system also helps fields retain moisture during dry periods and protects soil from erosion, making crops more resilient even when rainfall is delayed.
Beyond improving farmer incomes, FFF/CA contributes to Rwanda’s broader environmental goals by helping store carbon in the soil and reducing land degradation. As more farmers witness the strong harvests produced by early adopters, interest in the approach continues to grow across the region—demonstrating how practical, farmer-led innovation can strengthen food production while safeguarding the land for future generations.
